Proxmox Mail Gateway- still running on debian etch?

Is it true that Proxmox Mail Gateway still runs on debian etch? I have downloaded the openvz appliance and it appears to be running etch out of the box.I do not have a commercial license so I don't know if the latest service pack upgrades the system but even lenny has been announced for EOL:

Is this safe to use without security updates?

The basis is Etch but all important packages are updated (clamav, postfix, etc.). In order to get very latest version you should apply all hot-fixes, available for commercial licenses only.
