Hi all,

Im new to this field, so please be understanding.

I installed ProxMox on an HP T630 about a year and a half ago, and I used it for around three months.

The machine has been off for a long time, and today I tried to install CasaOS. However, this required an update of ProxMox (I believe my version was 7.3-3).

I followed the guide to update to 7.4-x so I could then upgrade to 8.0. I managed to complete the update, but after the reboot, the machine never came back on. ProxMox shuts down automatically after booting.

I’m not sure if it’s a problem with the HP computer or if it’s related to ProxMox. Normally, I’m able to turn on the keyboard backlight while the machine is on, but after the boot, it automatically shuts off.

I’ve attached the details of the process.

Thanks in advance for your help!

On the second screenshot i see kernel 5.15. Proxmox 8 has his default kernel 6.8. So It looks like the update is not completely finished. Under the first screenshot "Advanced options ..." your are able to load an 6.8 Kernel too? What you have in your kernellist?

On the third screenshot you can also see that file system errors are repaired.

Code:
I followed the guide to update to 7.4-x so I could then upgrade to 8.0. I managed to complete the update, but after the reboot, the machine never came back on. ProxMox shuts down automatically after booting.

And how exactly did you update your Proxmox, and what guide did you follow?

Hi Fieron,

Thank you for your response.

Following your steps, I was able to start ProxMox by selecting the third option from the list, and the machine is now running.

As you can see, the version has been updated. What are your thoughts? Do you recommend upgrading to version 8.0?

For the update, I followed a tutorial on YouTube. In the repositories, I disabled the ProxMox subscription and added a non-subscription repo. Then, I refreshed the “Updates” tab and followed the instructions.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Best regards,
Swankye

Fine :)

Thanks for clarifying, above it sounded to me like this was already the upgrade to 8.x. And yes, do the upgrade to 8, because 7.x is EOL.

For the update, I followed a tutorial on YouTube. In the repositories, I disabled the ProxMox subscription and added a non-subscription repo. Then, I refreshed the “Updates” tab and followed the instructions.
Do not disable your subscription, in this context, this make no sense. Docs for the normal updates: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#system_software_updates

Please follow the official upgrade guide to upgrade to Proxmox VE 8.x: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_7_to_8

Thanks for your support and for the comprehensive answers!

I will follow the Upgrade guide from 7 to 8 and will update the post.

Best regards,
Swankye

EDIT: Following the procedure I managed to install the newest version of ProxMox, thanks for the support!
