Although Proxmox seems a good solution and alternative to ESXi, it's installer is a piece of garbage. Never in my life I had to read so many forums to install a software.

Round 1 (Install via USB)
Can't find CDROM, lol, you're kidding right? it's 2015.

Round 2 (Read forums about this issue)
Saw that you have to do some mount tricks to make it work, worthless, I do have a CDROM.

Round 3 (Install via CDROM)
Painfully slow install, select internal USB disk, click Next: Insufficient disk space

Round 3 (Read minimum requirements)
From the oficial website:
>Hard drive
No sh**?? Really? Well thanks Proxmox guys!!!

Round 4 (Test on virtual machine)
Seems fine.

Round 5 (Install via CDROM to USB 8Gb pendrive (as used to do with ESXi))
Insufficient disk space

Round 6 (Install via CDROM to USB 160Gb HD)
Can't boot due to Grub issues (after reading... again...)

Round 7 (Install via CDROM to SATA 250Gb HD)
Luckly I always have some spares around. Let's try again.
Can't boot. No, not an UEFI issue, neither boot order messed up.

Round 8
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

Enough of this sh**t for a Sunday.

Conclusion
Having web access (and other features) instead of that stupid Win vSphere Client doesn't worth the trouble. So I'm sticking with VMWare :(
Maybe when Proxmox has a decent installer, without having to read tons of posts, I'll give it a try again.

NOTE: Test machine: HP ProLiant ML110 G5, Adaptec controller with 4 disks on RAID10.

I use proper server setups with ipmi and have never had issues installing on the 6 different machines I have setup. First try they just worked.

Great details! Seems like the general Proxmox documentation.
Must be my bad, doing Linux management and installs since 1999. So yes, my fault.

Well, you come here complaining and calling the product shit, but yet I have never seen these issues you are ranting about.

What fucking level of detail do you think I should provide? The shit has always worked fine for me.

I have configured several Dell R710's and a couple of home built (supermicro+Xeon) servers. Never a problem because I use the ipmi/drac located on each of my servers.

So it seems like an issue with your hardware. Not the installation medium' fault.

Same here, around 40 HP Servers (5 different Models) and Never Ever any Installation issues.

This Must Be a extraordinary case.
But. But. It has to be the installer's fault!

"I've been running Linux since 1999, so its not my shitty hardware or knowledge "

Without any tweaks? I've seen that installing 3.1 and then upgrading to 3.4 is the easiest way. 3.4 is just PITA...

No tweaks. Because everything was installed over the network using the ISO and ipmi software. My latest build was just a month ago. Not one issue

LOL, expecting this kind of comment.
Don't get me wrong, I did manage to install it and I'm running it. I do however, recognize a GOOD software, and this installer in a piece of shit.
Fortunately, Proxmox is great, and even having a garbage installer, the software itself runs great.
Now you understand?

Welcome to Proxmox, give a try: Disable Adaptec Controller, then select ZFS during setup.

BTW, last week I give a Proxmox training to a newbie (w/o any Linux experiences, he is a Windows user), using ISO installer we finish the setup < 15 minutes. He says that Proxmox installation easier then Windows 8.1. After installation we have RAIDZ, integrated firewall, and web ui with mobile support (so we can use Android phone).

yes you're right, you're got stuck in 1999 welcome to the futur in 2015.
My grand'ma (89 years old) installed proxmox a week ago, you're juste to bad. Please stop saying proxmox is shit if you don't have technical skills to use it.

If you think proxmox installer is shit , try to install the various anystack and anyvirt alternatives.

You will commit Seppuku :-)

Really? Try ESXi. Ready to work in under 10 minutes, even my grannie can do it. Without having to RTFM :p

Wrong... Proxmox itself is great, the 3.4 installer is in fact a big pile of shit. It's all over the webs that 3.1 is a breeze, and only then update to 3.4. LOL.

I've never had issues installing on my home lab, on several boxes...

So it really isn't a fact but rather an opinion...
