Hi Experts,

I am going to do a fresh installation of proxmox 7 on a rack server.

I have a bare metal server with 2 hard disk.

Kindly let me the best practice approach from the below options.

Option 1:
1. Enable Raid1 from the server setup.
2. Chose ext4 while installation.
3. Select only 1 HD.
4. Continue the installation

Option 2:
1. Remove Raid1 from the server setup
2. Configure each HD under Raid0.
3. Chose ZFS(Raid1) while installation.
4. Select 2 individual HD while ZFS configuration.
5. Continue the installation.

My intention is to install on ZFS.
If we go for option2, does it efeect the performance because of Raid1 over another Raid0.

So which is the best option? Please advice.

Best Regards,

Sujan.

Please don't do that. It will have an impact on performance, and replacing a failed disk gets much more complicated. What kind of hardware are you using? Can you switch the RAID controller to HBA mode or replace it with an HBA?
