Sorry if this is a question asked many times on here. I am very new and very lost. Is Proxmox 6.1 VE compatible with a Supermicro X11SSM-F board? I am having a heck of a time trying to get proxmox installed on it and I am wondering if that is causing my problem.

Thanks.

Hi,

we have quite a few supermicro boards here in out test lab and installed PVE on them pretty often.

What's your specific problem and through which medium do you try to install PVE?
I've got USB pen drive, IPMI virtual media and IPMI samba mount working OK here.

Sorry I missed your original question. I am installing off a Sandisk USB 2.0 which I burned with Etcher. I had to switch from Rufus because i couldnt even get Proxmox to load when burned.

Are you sure your downloaded ISO isn't corrupt? The error you get would make sense with file corruption..

Ensure the SHA256SUM matches the one from https://download.proxmox.com/iso

OK, the next suspicious thing could be the pen drive itself, sandisk usb 2.0 sounds like it's not the newest, maybe it has some issues?

As the error you posted is really weird, and we did not really got reported anything like that - which would exclude a general basic error, as that would show more often.

This sounds a bit like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1788817 but that should be fixed since quite a bit..

Can you try to edit the kernel command line on booting the ISO, i.e., boot to GRUB, then hit the e key, there go to the line starting with "linux", delete the "quiet" and "splash=silent", if any, and add nomodeset xdriver=vesa brokenmodules=ast to that same line. Once done hit CTRL+X (or F10) to boot.

However, when installing just to a single SSD not in ZFSRAID1, I get a different error.

Again a corrupt data stream, that clearly shows some HW issue, it either could be:
* memory (RAM) broken - try to run memtest
* another broken USB pen drive

Those all similar errors but in different places, all related to some file corruptness really targets the memory, IMO...

Update: I got proxmox installed without a hitch this time! Thank you for all your work, I could not have figured out the problem without you. It WAS a ram issue. That mem test made that VERY clear. 70k+ red errors instantly lol. My board is designed for ECC ram when I mistakenly had purchased Non-ECC ram. I am surprised the machine even booted and posted with incorrect ram, but I guess today I learned something new. Thank you again!!

Hi, is there any chance you can post what motherboards and models of SuperMicro parts you have tested and confirmed working?
