Proxmox Initial Installation Network Issues

Hi,

I have just taken the dive into the Proxmox world and started the installation on my personal server. Everything seems to be pretty simple until I reach the network configuration section. The installation asks for the

IPV4 address 192.168.100.55/24 (Not what I used just an example)
Gateway address 192.168.100.1
DNS address 127.0.0.1 (But that's not what my DNS address is on my pfsense so I changed it to match that) (All those IPs are just made up they are NOT what I entered)

Once I input the values requested and continue the installation I cannot access the webpage management 192.168.100.55:8006. The system won't even let me ping anything else.
Now, I have tried to adjust the /etc/network/interface file and added the Netmask 255.255.255.0....but this doesn't help either.
I have a Solorflare SFP 10G network card that I am using to try and connect through DAC cables, but again I can't seem to get the system to access the internet. It also seems when I configure the /etc/network/interface file it really doesn't do anything.....(Even if I reboot the server). I have DAC cables installed in both SFP ports on the 10G network card but only the VM adapter configured in the network interface file.......(Really wanted to combine both the SFP ports and let them load balance the system)

So,
That all being said I am stuck on what I am doing wrong....I have tried to read over the post other members have written on here and followed some of their solutions, but none of the "Issues or Posts" really have an issue with just getting the Proxmox connected to the internet to start with. If anyone can help walk me through getting this resolved I sure would appreciate it. I apologize for my lack of knowledge/understanding of Proxmox, but I have read it can be a great tool to use on a server for multiple applications/setups so I wanted to give it a shot.

Thank you for your help in advance,
Truckin

PS> I do know for a fact the Solorflare card is good on both ports as I have been using it for over a year on the same server in Windows Server 2019......

Hi,
IPV4 address 192.168.100.55/24 (Not what I used just an example)
Gateway address 192.168.100.1
DNS address 127.0.0.1 (But that's not what my DNS address is on my pfsense so I changed it to match that) (All those IPs are just made up they are NOT what I entered)
Those are the default values for gateway and DNS the installer shows you when it cannot automatically query some "correct" ones over DHCP.

Now, I have tried to adjust the /etc/network/interface file and added the Netmask 255.255.255.0....but this doesn't help either.
Netmask is deprecated by using the CIDR notation, e.g., 192.168.1.42 and netmask 255.255.255.0 becomes 192.168.1.42/24. (I just saw that some docs of ours still mention the netmask, will clean that up soon).

Once I input the values requested and continue the installation I cannot access the webpage management 192.168.100.55:8006. The system won't even let me ping anything else.
And the 192.168.100.55/24 is really the network you're using in that LAN? I ask as not being able to ping anything else would either mean:
1. the network is actually another one
2. a switch of yours has the PVE host in a VLAN or the like
3. the network adapter used makes problems

What's the output of ip addr ?

Is the system only connected through that card or is there (another) RJ45/Ethernet copper link? Just to get a better picture of the setup?

Hi,

Those are the default values for gateway and DNS the installer shows you when it cannot automatically query some "correct" ones over DHCP.

Thank you for that information as I wondered if the installer would attempt to automatically find the "correct" IP address on the NIC.
Netmask is deprecated by using the CIDR notation, e.g., 192.168.1.42 and netmask 255.255.255.0 becomes 192.168.1.42/24. (I just saw that some docs of ours still mention the netmask, will clean that up soon).

Yes, I tried to add that as the help guides all had it in there along with other people's responses to questions on the forum etc. Most are older yes, but the only ones I could find. Sorry about that....was just trying to follow the guides before posting for help as I know a lot of forum members don't like questions which have been answered already (Or users or don't know the "Search" button).
And the 192.168.100.55/24 is really the network you're using in that LAN? I ask as not being able to ping anything else would either mean:
1. the network is actually another one
I have matched both mac addresses for the Solorflare 10g SFP card and they both match when you edit the /etc/network/interfaces file. I have tried to configure one, the other, and both at the same time...nothing works.
2. a switch of yours has the PVE host in a VLAN or the like
PVE? I do have a few VLANS yes on my Ubiquit switch. but I matched up the info for the VLAN that I wanted to put the proxomox on...and still nothing.
3. the network adapter used makes problems
Makes problems? Not compatiable with Proxmox? I know the adapter works as it's been in production for almost a year on my server under Windows Server 2019.

I don't understand the question....what is /ICODE?
Is the system only connected through that card or is there (another) RJ45/Ethernet copper link? Just to get a better picture of the setup?
The system has three onboard NIC interfaces.
2 are used for networking/IP address/etc
1 is IPMI interface for remote management.

However, we don't use the onboard NICs as the speed was what we felt it should be and so that's why we purchased the solorflare 10g card. It has performed well.

I can provide more detailed information on the VLANS and IP settings but really don't feel comfortable doing it in the public section. If you would allow a PM conversation I can maybe give more insight on certain bits you think are relevant?

Thank you for your help so much! I am brand new to proxmox and I really want to get it up and running to try new things.
