Recently upgraded Proxmox 4.4 to 5.1. Upgrade was successful. However, on reboot, the machine just hangs during boot. Last message it shows is:

[ 5.797536] BTRFS: device label raid1pool devid 2 transid 18941 /dev/sdc

No sure why it is looking for that disk. The VM that was using BTRFS was deleted months ago. /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc are part of a health ceph node.

This only happens on the latest 4.13.4 kernel. I can however boot without any issues with the older 4.4.83 or lower kernels.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

please provide a full boot log (e.g., serial console with "quiet" removed from the kernel command line), otherwise it will be impossible to trouble shoot this further..

is any of that with the 4.13 kernel? please clearly indicate what is what..

that is from the working system booting on 4.4. I am not sure how to get logs from 4.13 since it never completes boot and hangs.

I will try booting with debug break = premount and debug break = mount and see if I can get the file.

Yes it did. Sorry I had no other way to get the info. Can you use a serial console without a serial port or cable?

Your crashing machine has so serial port? Often it is not cabled, yet it should have a serial console. Often I also use a netconsole if the serial console is not working. You can send the console output via network to another machine.

Maybe you can try to use a usb2serial console, yet I do not know if this works for boot stuff.

No serial port unfortunately. Was there no useful info on the screenshots?

What is on the new kernel? I can boot fine with the older kernel and all my containers and ceph works without any issues.
