Proxmox HA with storage device

Hello everyone,

As a newcomer to this forum, I have a query regarding a particular Proxmox installation setup. I've exclusively worked with VMware and this configuration is quite common in that environment.

I have a setup consisting of 2 server nodes and a dedicated storage device. Typically, these nodes are clustered and within the virtualizer, there exists a datastore that directly accesses the storage.

My question is: If one of these nodes were to lose connectivity to the storage (and consequently, the datastore containing the VMs), would Proxmox be able to detect this issue and initiate a migration of the VMs to the remaining node?

I trust that I've explained my query clearly.

If you have the setup why don't try yourself ?
If your storage is block based eg iscsi/fc you would probably having multiple path for storage access.
If your storage is file based eg nfs/smb you may loose network access to node completely.
If your storage crashed your other pve node don't have access either.

thanks for the reply
I will do some tests but the only doubt was whether proxmox could sense that a node is completely disconnected from the storage (more extreme situation in this case) and that it would do an automatic migration

I think by default proxmox doesn't handle storage lose to trigger HA failover...only when VM process or node crash.

I think so also as pve doesn't know the reason for storage unavailability and if it's maybe coming back soon and so still waiting (like a nfs mount).
