Hello everyone,
I am building a Proxmox server to be used in a lab without IT support. i.e. After the server is delivered, its maintenance should be as easy as possible.
The server is Dell T440 64GB RAM with 4x 1TB SAS, and 3xWD RED 3TB SATA. Is is equipped with a PERC H730p RAID controller. It will host 3-4 VMs for big-data processing/developing. (The VMs wont be working all at the same time.. hopefully).

I am considering to use:
  1. the 4 SAS disk as primary storage in RAID10: Installation of proxmox, VMs and working space. (I know.. not optimal, but that's what I have).
  2. the 3 SATA disks as secondary storage (JBOD or individual disks) for data storage, backups etc.
My main question (as MANY others in the net) is if I should use the HW controller or ZFS. I have practically read all information about the benefits of ZFS, so there is no need to talk about how good ZFS is...
What I am looking for is a system that can be handled by people not very skilled in IT. e.g. In case a SAS drive fails on the H730p, its replacement is simply: "take it out, put the new one in, done". On the other hand, replacing a disk with ZFS seems quite complicated, as it involves command line etc. Is this true? (I repeat it will be managed in BASIC ways by non-experts).

Sorry for asking a "much asked question", but I am really divided between the two options, and I need someone to push me a little towords the "right?" side :)

Thanks!!
