Model: Intel NUC 12 - i7 (NUC12WSHI7)
Proxmox Version: Proxmox VE 7.3-1 (ISO from site)

This is my first time using Proxmox so be gentle!

Question 1: Deploying Proxmox hasn't been the smoothest experience on this NUC. During the first deployment, approximately 5 minutes in, the system completely froze and the screen started flashing many different colors really fast. I had to hard reset the NUC and went through the installation process fairly quickly the second time around. Once booted up, the system crashed again, and the screen started bugging out- however I was able to see an error message:

>> [drm] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun: port, transcoder,

I did some googling and came across some old threads without much luck. Most suggested disabling the c-state power options in the BIOS, however the NUC bios is fairly limited. Others suggested that c-states should function correctly out of box and any issues would indicate bad silicon or faulty CPU. For kicks, I tried installing Windows 10 and didn't have any issues. I was able to install drivers, update the BIOS, etc... I'm currently running Memtest86 now to confirm.

For Proxmox deployment on a NUC (12th gen), is this something that should Just work, or do I need to tweak anything?

Question 2: The first thing I'm going to deploy on this system is plex. Is iGPU passthrough supported on the 12th gen CPUs? If so, does that require upgrading the kernel to the latest release available? (6.1 I believe). I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had any issues with this kind of setup and what kind of performance you get. I have high hopes for the Intel Iris XE (96 EU) and QuickSync for hardware transcoding.

As a Proxmox newbie myself, I just recently completed a single-node PVE installation on an Intel NUC 11 and, although with a pretty steep learning curve, the whole process went relatively smooth.

I loosely followed the 3 posts linked below and one of them did a full installation on a NUC 12 without reported issues. Perhaps you can post a question on his blog and he might be able to help you.

I can post my installation sequence and settings if you think it can help.

Just in case anyone comes across this post with the same issues. I can confirm the Intel NUC 12 was defective. It must've had internal CPU issues or bad silicon. I received a replacement NUC, updated the BIOS, moved the NVME drive and memory to the new unit, turned it on and haven't had a single issue.

I deployed plex through docker on a Ubuntu VM, messed with cifs share mappings, deployed some lxc containers and messed with passthrough drivers, etc. Finally settled on plex in an lxc container with gpu passthrough. (8cpu cores, 8gb memory container -- probably overkill) I was able to get around 15 simultaneous 265 1080p hardware transcodes before getting any buffering. It's not a ton, but it's way more than I need and I still have tons of room on this little box.

Hey Rozzly/Microlino,

I was wondering if you could help, I just got this unit, and I can confirm its all working, the model I have has an NVME and a SATA drive, I am trying to access the SATA drive with luck, I was just wondering if you were able to get it working.

Thank you in advance.

Trevor

Do I understand correctly that you cannot access your SATA drive?
When you go to Datacenter -> <NODE> -> Disks, can you see /dev/sda? Did you initialize it?
