I'm testing hardware raid in Proxmox and I did a swap of a failed drive. Dell R550 with 2 ssd (ID 0-1) in BOSS 2 card and 6 SAS drives (ID 0-7) on H745 in RAID10.

Using smartctl --scan I was able to see the original disk list by controller channel and slot. Failed drive was channel 0 disk 3 with new drive, in same slot. After the hotswap and controller did the rebuild successfully Proxmox started sending a daily email regarding drive 3 smart status inquiry failed. using smartctl --scan I no longer see disk ID3 but a disk ID8, where it was only ID0-7 prior.
I restarted the smartmontools service and the email stopped but the disk ID is still 8. Is this normal behavior? Is there something I need to update to get the disk ID's back to normal within Proxmox so my monitoring in Zabbix and any alert emails display the correct disk ID?

"perccli /call show" would always show the right slot of exchanged disks.
That's a smartmontools effect which should gone after rescan and restart ... but as seen didn't.
Better to change your zabbix checks to ask perccli instead of smartctl.

Thanks for the info. I'll see what options I have in getting Zabbix to use perccli instead. It's just odd that smartctl would change the disk ID's from what are exposed by the perc controller.
