Hi, I´d like to create a proxmox cluster in the data center of my server provider. They said that multicast isn´t possible, but they suggested to connect the two servers I´d like to build the cluster of with a crossover cable at a second network interface card. They say, that I can use multicast on that direct connection then.

Will this setup work? Will it be more difficult to install for me?

Thanks

if multicast does not work, just use unicast.

Thanks for your quick response. This seems very interesting (als the suggested feature above costs extra money). Will the two or three cluster servers still have to be in the same network? Or what are the prerequisites for this?

there are the same prerequisites, its just uses unicast instead of multicast.

Setting up a 2 node cluster is not a great solution. Make sure the cluster has atleast 3 nodes or 2 nodes with 1 quorum disk to have the voting quorum system work correctly. If for any reason your 2 nodes loose communication both systems will become read only. This is proxmox security feature to stop a split brain type scenario from the cluster.
