Proxmox can't see my cpu features

My proxmox install doesn't seem to see my cpu features. I have the X11SDV-8C-TP8F Supermicro board and Xenon 2146 cpu. My cpu supports aes-ni and its enabled in the bios. However, when I check for it on proxmox, its not there:

I also installed a pf sense vm and nothing is picked up - even the cpu info:

Is there something I need to do to get proxmox to see all the features the cpu supports?

Set the CPU type to "host". I don't think there is a way to set that as the default when creating a VM in the GUI so you have to select it each time. Luckily if you mess up you can change it later and restart (not reboot) the VM.

got it.

now, I need to solve the issue of proxmox showing high memory usage for pfsense when pfsense itself shows very little. I looked around here and found one post where the user had cpu hotplug enabled - I dont. My memory usage is at 90% with 4gb memory allocated.

You have to look inside the VM to see "real" usage due to caching. Proxmox can't tell what the memory is used for unless you install the guest agent. Don't know if that's availlable for pfsense.

you mean this is wrong? This is from the pfsense summary screen

Proxmox displays how much memory the VM has allocated. It can't know how that memory is used inside the VM. Most operating systems will use free memory for cache, and that is "allocated" from Proxmox view, but that memory is often considered "free" by the OS because it is very easy to recover it for other uses. To know if your VM needs more memory you have to use tools inside the VM.
