One of my proxmox machine doesnt boot anymore, it hang at load kernel module. it is not a specific module as, every time i try to boot, it is a different one that it stop at. but never go far enough to get network access. (as i've read some people can reach webui even if its not done booting)

i can boot a ubuntu live iso just fine, so its probably not a hardware issue.

There was no update done recently, it happened after a power faillure (well, improper shutdown to be more precise)

my googling attempt so far only get me to unrelated issues like stuck at specific module or issue after an update.

thank you for your help!

i ran fsck -f on the pve-root, once it said the free block number or something was off, it fixed it, now it just says 0.3% non contiguous but the problem persist.

It sounds like your installation got corrupted through that improper shutdown.

Can you boot with the rescue-mode provided with the Proxmox ISO installer?

If you can't, you probably need to reinstall ATP.

Thanks for your reply, rescue-mode doesnt work either, what is ATP? i googled and i only got some results about windows defender, so i guess thats not what i need to look into.

i tried reinstalling on a different drive to access the vms, it changed the volume group names (since then i restored it to default name) but everything in my previous installation was read-only so i was unable to backup the vms or use them in any way. so it really seems like i have to fix the boot

At This Point.

it changed the volume group names
That is normal - so as not to conflict with the current new installation - it adds old or something like that AFAICR (As Far As I Can Recall).

so i was unable to backup the vms
You should have existing backups for them (on a different medium) - in any case. Excuses are not going to help.

was read-only so i was unable to backup the vms
You should be able to retrieve the data from those volumes. Though this may prove unreliable, due to the seemingly data-corruption present.
The exact procedure will depend upon your specific setup/requirements.

Good luck.
