Proxmox best local system and storage allocation

Hi,

I want to ask for help:
I am planning to install 1 proxmox server and I am looking for the best allocation of storage space.
3 240pcs ssd for the system (1pc spare).
4 pcs 960gb ssd for local storage (1pc spare).
All ssd Intel D3-S4510.
What would be the optimal solution (raid, filesystem etc ...)

So you got 3x 240GB + 4x 960GB or 4x 240GB + 5x 960GB in total?

For the VM storage I would go with a ZFS striped mirror. So two mirrors of 960GB SSDs striped together. Around 1920GB should be usable, 1 to 2 SSDs might be able to fail without loosing data, you get bit rot protection and the best IOPS performance.

For the system drives I would use a ZFS mirror of 2 SSDs. But for just the system the SSDs are way too big. Proxmox will work fine with just 16 GB of storage. You could tell the Proxmox installer to keep some space unallocated so you might use that unallocated space later to create your own partitions for swap or read cache (L2ARC) but I wouldn't want such write intense partitions on my system SSDs so they don't fail earlier.
Some extra space on your system drives is fine if you want your ISO, LXC template, Snippets etc storage there but for that 240GB is really alot.
