Hello!

I'm looking into backup of data in on-prem S3-compatible storage, and also put the data on LTO-tapes. We are already using Veeam as backup software for our virtual environment, but the price for NAS-backup makes me look at alternatives.
From the documentation I can see that this is possible with PBS, but I have some questions about architecture before I start testing.

1) Can I install the "management"-part of PBS on a Virtual(or small physical) machine, and then add multiple physical servers that actually does the backup and writing to tape?
2) Can PBS distribute the backup job over multiple physical backup servers, all backing up On-prem S3 data?
3) Can tapes from multiple PBS be used in the same meda pool?

Setup is something like:

On-Prem S3(PBs of data) -> backup to disk on multiple PBS -> Backup to LTO-Tape, Multiple servers with multiple LTO-Drives connected backed by a Tape library with many tapes/slots

In Veeam I would add all the physical servers as Proxy/Tape/Repository servers. Create a scale-out-repository as target for S3 Backup job, then create a tape job as secondary target for the backups.

Yes, you can use an S3 store to sync to a regular filesystem backed datastore and write to tape from there.
