ProxMox backup on different ProxMox

Hi all,

I would like to know if i could use a different ProxMox machine for backing up my Virtual Machine. I have installed Proxmox on two different servers. On one of those two servers i have installed a virtual machine with Windows 7 and i would like to create a backing up job for that virtual machine to the second ProxMox machine that has no virtual windows (or any SMB service) installed. Is it possible to create a backup job with no SMB server? Just copy the virtual machine every..lets say week... to the seconds ProxMox server hd?

Yes you can, but the "backup" node should share some of its space through a folder. NFS is one way, you could install samba too, or else. So you should first setup some sharing server on the "backup" node, then configure the "running" node to mount the share locally. Then configure a "local" storage in "other" node using that local mount point. If your two nodes are in the same cluster, both nodes should have the same local mount point, each mounting a share on the other node, probably.

It is not a common setup, but it can work.

Thank you for your reply. So i need to share a folder using smb! Is there a way to setup samba on the Proxmox in order to share that folder without installing an additional operating system?

? proxmox is a debian derived OS, so install /configure samba as you do on debian.
if you don't want to access those share with other windows systems (desktops) although, nfs is probably a better choice on linuxes. But both will work.
