[SOLVED] Proxmox apt-get update failed exit code 127

Just logged into my Proxmox this morning and am getting this during update checks:
starting apt-get update
apt-get: relocation error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libapt-private.so.0.0: symbol _ZN3APT25VersionContainerInterface23FromModifierCommandLineERtPS0_R12pkgCacheFilePKcRKNSt7__cxx114listINS0_8ModifierESaIS9_EEERNS_14CacheSetHelperE version APTPKG_5.0 not defined in file libapt-pkg.so.5.0 with link time reference
TASK ERROR: command 'apt-get update' failed: exit code 127

Is anybody else getting this or has anyone experienced this before?
My server has been up for nearly 22 days and the issue didn't start until December 25th when it did a check and it's failed ever since then. Any thoughts or tips as to where I should start to work on this issue?

can you think of anything you modified on the server recently? like deleting some files for example?

you can try reinstalling libapt-pkg5 if you have the .deb file still.
check in /var/cache/apt/archives. you can do it like this: find /var/cache/apt -type f -name '*.deb' | grep libapt
if you see the file, run: dpkg -i /path/to/debfile

if it's not there you can probably download it from the mirror using wget. (check your /etc/apt/sources.list file for the debian mirror you're using)

Aside from running updates on it roughly a week ago I haven't actually touched the server. I've just been letting it be while on the holidays which is why it's kind of odd that it just suddenly started failing.

I'll try following through on your suggestions soon and let you know how that goes.

I was able to find it and reinstalled it as you said and now it's able to successfully run apt-get update again. I appreciate the quick assist on this one!
