Proxmox and Truenas

I'd like to know if I am running Proxmox using an NVME drive and if I am using an additional NVME drive (attached using PCIe adapter) as the storage device for VMs, can I pass through all of my SATA ports to Truenas? I know HBA card is an option but I want to know if there is any problem with the alternate approach I mentioned.

Only if the controller can be passed through you'll possibly get a reliable system.
