Hi Team,

I moved all the virtual servers to a synology ds411j nas and I am getting al lot of I/O delays about 50%.

Is there anything I could do pls.

Proxmox is 2.1

root@proxmox1:~# pveperf
CPU BOGOMIPS: 39900.53
REGEX/SECOND: 863671
HD SIZE: 16.73 GB (/dev/mapper/pve-root)
BUFFERED READS: 100.55 MB/sec
AVERAGE SEEK TIME: 4.68 ms
FSYNCS/SECOND: 59.01
DNS EXT: 36.95 ms
DNS INT: 33.88 ms (domain.com)

Any help welcome.

Cheers,

Raj

your run the pveperf benchmarks on the local file system - and its is quite slow.

the local sys is on a sas drive in raid 1 + 1 drive fail over or the array.

What do you suggest pls as this is driving me nuts.

The server is an ibm 3650 2cpu 8 cores total with 12 GB ram( getting upgraded to 18 in a few day)

Cheers,

Raj

you local storage is too slow, seems you have no write cache enabled on your raid controller - enable it!

and make sure that you have a BBU installed.

Here is the new result now with BBU controller

root@proxmox1:~# pveperf
CPU BOGOMIPS: 39900.37
REGEX/SECOND: 866107
HD SIZE: 16.73 GB (/dev/mapper/pve-root)
BUFFERED READS: 98.32 MB/sec
AVERAGE SEEK TIME: 4.77 ms
FSYNCS/SECOND: 103.29
DNS EXT: 33.89 ms
DNS INT: 32.83 ms (domain.com)

Is there anything i should enable via proxmox?

Cheers,

raj

fsyncs are too slow "FSYNCS/SECOND: 103.29"

enable write cache on the controller bios.

if you have write cache enable, you should get more than 1000 fsyncs.

if not, something is really wrong. maybe the BBU is not fully charged yet.

root@proxmox1:~# pveperf
CPU BOGOMIPS: 39899.82
REGEX/SECOND: 890378
HD SIZE: 16.73 GB (/dev/mapper/pve-root)
BUFFERED READS: 176.65 MB/sec
AVERAGE SEEK TIME: 4.87 ms
FSYNCS/SECOND: 99.04
DNS EXT: 36.38 ms
DNS INT: 33.91 ms (domain.com)

Read and write cache are enable.

The raid card is a ServeRAID 8k SAS Controller

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/tips0784.html#8k

There are 3 drive 2 of them in raid 1 config and the third is a hotspare for the logical drive.

Could the raid be the issue as its raid 1 maybe?

Cheers,

Raj

root@proxmox1:~# pveperf
CPU BOGOMIPS: 39900.44
REGEX/SECOND: 858372
HD SIZE: 16.73 GB (/dev/mapper/pve-root)
BUFFERED READS: 174.78 MB/sec
AVERAGE SEEK TIME: 4.79 ms
FSYNCS/SECOND: 1394.23
DNS EXT: 34.58 ms
DNS INT: 32.35 ms (domain.com)

Got it as the batt is still charging, change the setting to not consider the batt and now the figures are up.

Will this change the IO usage from the nas down pls as all the vm are on the nas.

Cheers,

raj

looks better now. the performance from the local system is not related to the performance of the nas.
