Proxmox 9 email gateway time issue in Alberta

Alberta has cancelled Daylight savings time. So no "fall behind, spring ahead". My Proxmox shows the correct time in the shell, I have the latest updates. The syslog shows an hour ago as does the email tracker.I have checked everywhere and the system has the correct time, its just the Email gateway that is processing on the wrong time. Googles Ai suggests its browser based, but I have tried this on several desktops and other servers which are correctly synced and still have this issue.

How can we update the proxmox so that the tracker and the syslog show the correct time?

Also, my subscription was billed last night so its current and was current before this.

Thanks very much for any help.

Hello,
sadly I can't answer your question but if you happen to have a support subscription ( they start with the basic subscription) you should be able to file a support ticket. This might give you a faster answer than the forum community.

Thank you for the response. In Canada the Euro is just way too high in conversion,. Email is something we have to provide that doesn't actually make any money. Everything we provide to it is at our own expense. I'm sure I am not the only person having this issue. The time data, timezone and sync is fine on the actual server, it's the proxmox gui that is pulling it's time from someplace else. Even in the configuration page the time shows correct, just not in syslog nor in the tracker. I'm sure they will fix it sooner or later, but it would be nice if this could be adjusted by us.

I feel you, I can't even afford the community subscription right nw.. I just wanted to point out that this is the community forum and although stuff members are also present here (thanks for this!) most support here is from fellow community members like yours truly, who want to give something back.

If this is an actual bug (which seems likely but as said I can't reproduce due to not using PMG) it's propably worth to file a bug on https://bugzilla.proxmox.com Different to the forum an bugzilla entry is more likely to get noticed by staff members, since they regulary monitor the new issues.. After all other Proxmox software might also be having the same problem and an actual bug is something different than asking bugzilla instead of forum for the best way how to setup your storage/network for a ProxmoxVE cluster :)

I have submitted this as a bug. I don't know if that will help but another client of mine has a proxmox email gateway that I suggested they get and they have the same issue exactly. I think you are correct, without a paid support subscription there is little chance that a staff or support person would see this. As the time on the server is correct and the time in the GUI is correct I can see no reason why the proxmox server would use a third time setting specifically for these two areas, the tracker and the syslog. It is an aggravating issue though.

The zip file contains 3 screen shots. The config page which shows the correct time, the syslog page taken seconds after the config page showing the wrong time and the tracker page taken a few seconds ish after that also with the wrong time.

root@proxmox:~# timedatectl status
Local time: Fri 2026-11-06 15:18:42 CST
Universal time: Fri 2026-11-06 21:18:42 UTC
RTC time: Fri 2026-11-06 21:18:42
Time zone: America/Edmonton (CST, -0600)
System clock synchronized: yes
NTP service: active
RTC in local TZ: no

root@proxmox:~# apt policy tzdata
tzdata:
Installed: 2026f-0+deb13u1
Candidate: 2026f-0+deb13u1
Version table:
*** 2026f-0+deb13u1 500
500 http://deb.debian.org/debian trixie-updates/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
2026c-0+deb13u1 500
500 http://deb.debian.org/debian trixie/main amd64 Packages

The server is totally up to date. I also checked this against a clients proxmox email gateway and its exactly the same. We've tried everything including changing timezone to central and nothing helps. The shell shows the correct time and date.

Thank you very much for your time.

Hi,

After seeing the zip, none of your screen shows the time using ssh commands (only screen of the WebUI) and/or what is registered in the log files.

Your bugtracker issue should show the result of apt policy tzdata && timedatectl status && tail /var/log/mail.log to prove the issue is only on the WebUI and the log files on the host have the correct timestamp.

Best regards,

I posted the results of both of those commands here. I can copy them to the bug tracker. When you have clients freaking out on you because of this time issue it adds a certain amount of stress to the whole issue. I wasn't as concerned with having to prove the issue as if there was no issue I wouldn't have bothered to post it. In the Screen shots the config page showed the right time, the tracker and syslog the wrong time, so I would have thought that shows an issue. The time on ssh was correct. After 4 days it now appears that the proxmox email gateway has caught up with the actual time. I can only surmise that the gui and the syslog get their time from a different source that has caught up.

Thanks for your time.

I would agree, except that a clients proxmox server was exactly the same. It seems that the syslog and the tracker are getting their time data from elsewhere. I don't profess to know everything about the proxmox servers, but we have been using them for a few years, since version 6. They are an excellent resource but still subject to human failings. It would be nice to know what changed to resolve this. Not a fan of magical fixes. Thanks for trying to help though.

Hi,

In your history have you rebooted the system and/or service after upgrading tzdata to "2026c-0+deb13u1" or more recent ?
I'm not a dev (/!\AI was used to read the code and tell what is doing/!\), but PMG seems to use this to parse logs : https://git.proxmox.com/?p=pmg-log-tracker.git;a=tree;f=src
And nothing seems to modify the time

That is why I still think you should read the log file manually to see if it's correct or not. Maybe it's dumb but I think it's still worth the check.
And I was wrong, It seems to read /var/log/syslog and not /var/log/mail.log

Best regards,

Currently the mail.log and the syslog are showing the correct time. Either by command line or by the GUI. Both were showing hte incorrect time until last night. The tracking center is basically a nicely formatted mail log. The syslog is the same in the gui as on the command line. Since late last night everything seems to have gone back to normal. This is the same on both my proxmox email gateway and my clients proxmox email gateway.

Thanks very much
