Hello everyone,

i tried to connect my NAS share via cifs in the proxmox gui.
So far so good.
When I tried to connect in the datacenter --> storage --> add > SMB /CIFS it works fine.

After the next reboot the vm disk section in the new storage object show me the message: "mount error: Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) and kernel log messages (dmesg) (500)"

When I connect to the shell I can see the mount under /mnt/<mount-name> with the content of the share, also I can see the mount with mount-command.

In the proxmox gui under server --> system --> syslog i can see these messages (and with every second a new line of message appears):
proxmox kernel: CIFS: Attempting to mount //<nas-ip>/share
proxmox pvestatd[932]: mount error: Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) and kernel log messages (dmesg)

Via shell the pvesm status command show me the status inactive for this share.

I think, that proxmox does not become the status information after the mount is completed and is attempting to mount the share infinity.
The result the share does not shows in the gui.

But I am not sure.

Have anyone else this problem in proxmox.

best regards,

darhttidus

in dmesg I see the same messages: CIFS: Attempting to mount //<nas-ip>/share
And when I use the mount command, I can the the successful mount.

OK, thatÄs possible.
But why I see the messages in dmesg and at the same time the cifs share is mounted?

yes, it's mounted in the proxmox host (you can see it under /mnt/mountpoint and via mount command), but in the gui and in dmesg in the proxmox host the message "CIFS: Attempting to mount //<nas-ip>/share" appears. This is paradox.
For the first time when created the storage in the proxmox gui the storage was shown in the gui and accessible.

It's trying to mount it in the vm and cannot so error. Remove it from the vm and see what happens !

I will send it, perhaps it's will be clearer.proxmox001.png

I think it, too.
But I removed this storage in the proxmox gui and add it again, but it works only for the first time after add.
When I reboot the proxmox server, the error messages starts again.

I have no idea, why it comes to this result, perhaps a bug in proxmox.

Maybe list your mount cmd and try it first manually in the shell. If that works fine than try in the gui...

hmm, okay, I can try it.
One thing is interesting: When I umount the cifs mount, the automount try to mount the cifs share again. For the first try it will be mount (but in the gui there is still the error) and after the first try any service will try to mount the share again and again and ....

Well disable the automount and start reading the proxmox administrator guide. All explained there beautifully !

Okay, is describe in the guide the name and directory of the automount?
Actually, I have no idea which automount unit it is.

Thank you for your help, I wish you a good night.

There is automount via fstab file or by using system.d.
Why you enabled automount as proxmox takes care of thecifs mount ?
Suc6 and goodnight!

Hello,

I don't enabled automount by myself.
I installed proxmox with default settings and would add NAS Share as additional storage, which success in the first try until the next boot.
I saw multiple tries to mount the share although the share is mount on the proxmox server.

Today I looked into the syslog and also saw multiple error messages for failing to mount a smb/cifs share. In my case it is right because the share is not available at that moment, but proxmox looks to be a bit too agressive and has no increasing time-out or off-switch if the share is not available, but keeps trying to mount and flooding the log. Not a very elegant solution imo!
