I have scoured the internet and this forum and could not find an answer.

Everyone else's promox server actually sees the NIC, my server doesn't even list it.

I know it's functional because I put it into a windows machine, installed the drivers and VOILA, alive card.

I'm still a promox beginner and I'm eager to learn, but cannot find an answer.

Do I need to install the drivers on PVE? Or is it a lost cause?

If I need to install them, the big question is: How? I see no tutorials on driver installation.

I subscribe to your question. I have an Inspur interface X540-AT2 with 2 ports x 10Gigabit and is not show in the network.
Drivers are available but I don't know how to install.

This was a lost cause; the manufacturer doesn't make the Debian driver in a package you have to compile your own. I wound up using this, it worked perfectly plug and play, basically any card with an Intel X540 controller will 100% work:
