Hi All,

First time poster long time user of Proxmox, even on a raspberry pi (stupidly)..

I recently bought a few new pc parts mainly
ryzen 7 5700G x 2
asus prime b550m-k with Realtek RTL8111h
asus prime b550m-a with Realtek RTL8111h

I have been able to run one of these machines for the past 4 days without issue.

1 Machine has been a pain and here below is what has happened with that second machine:

This machines VM's survived 24 hours before the network port disabled itself and then the vm's started shutting down.
I shutdown the failing node, when I went to reboot, the machine reported "no pve_root can be found".

I performed a shutdown, dropped in my install media again, went through the process to re-install, however every time since I have been dropped into shell which says unable to continue type exit or Ctrl+d to reboot (Due To Buffer Overflow).

I was able to re-install Proxmox 7.1 on the failing node. However after 12 hours the network port disabled and everything shut down again. I am now stuck trying to install proxmox, every time I try,
- Getting modprobe issues
- Or it will load the GUI and says no network interaces.
- Attempting to get DHCP Lease -fails - No Broadcast interfaces found - exiting (Network port is active and flashing lights)

Now my question is, will I struggle to get RealTek nics to work properly while installing proxmox? Why is only one of these nodes effected, the other built at the same time has the same nic, and has had no network issues.

Do I need to buy an Intel I210 nic to test its not the motherboard being busted ?

I am at a loss as to why its failing. I have not tried installing Debian. However I am not able to even install ubuntu server 20.04 on the failing machine.

Regards Matt.

I have purchased a second hand intel AIC and even with this there is no change to the above outcomes.

Sounds more like a general hardware problem and therefore would need the usual hardware troubleshooting, instead of a specific problem with PVE.

Yeah that's what I figured there were issues with something. However the machine will boot successfully into windows 10, which leads me to believe that the machine is working, and proxmox/debian installation's are not able to read the hardware correctly.

Since my post above, I have tried:
1. Adding a second add in card (realtek) no change in outcome
2. Adding another add in card (Broadcom) from my previously working dell r320 (no change in outcome) (Part of 3 Node Cluster for Proxmox)
3. I purchased an Intel 82567 card and tried with no change in outcome.

Next I will grab the boot drive from my working node which has been online for 4 days without issue using a B550M-A board and see if that drive will boot in the failing mother board the B550M-K.

Further Update, i brought in a old i7-4700 - HP sff machine, using the same installation media I install proxmox to a 120gb ssd. put it back into the failing machine and it wont boot, bring the ssd back to the machine I installed from and its working. I believe the motherboard is defective.

So update motherboard is in for warranty checks. Sounds like there is a hardware issue with the board.
