Hello.

I am currently doing a test upgrade in a virtual environment before upgrading out production environment.

We have 3 servers running ceph, and VM's
We are VM's running, and i see in the documentation that you can migrate the vm's to a upgraded host, and keep upgrading your cluster without shutting the VM's off.
But the VM is using ceph, is ceph accessible during the upgrade?

We have a NAS also, so i might be easier to just move the disks to the NAS during the upgrade.

Hi,

Yes. We made a Ceph Luminous repo for Proxmox VE 6, so during the upgrade from PVE 5 to PVE 6 you'll keep the Ceph version on Luminous. Thus the cluster should stay available and the VMs and CTs can use it just fine.

Only after your upgrade to Proxmox VE 6 was successful and all seems working well Ceph can (and sooner or later should) be upgraded to the Nautilus release.

Our upgrade documentation ( https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0#Preconditions ) also talks about Ceph.
For the Ceph upgrade you can then take a look at: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Luminous_to_Nautilus once you upgraded PVE to 6.0

We have a NAS also, so i might be easier to just move the disks to the NAS during the upgrade.
Would be a alternative, but normally not required. But, that could be a great place for backups. :)

Yeah, just did a complete test upgrade, everything worked like the guide said :)

Yes, thats where we keep the full-image backups ;)
