Hi there.

I have followed several guides to getting OMSA installed on proxmox and it all appears to be working fine, I can log in to the web console, trouble im having is it doesn't display any system information, particularly storage controllers which is my main concern. ive tried a few different versions of OMSA and all give the same problem.

ive made sure the login to the idrac uses the same credentials as proxmox incase that was the issue but hasn't helped.

I have an R710 on latest firmware with a h700 installed, proxmox can see and use the storage controller fine I just need the OMSA to see it too so I can manage virtual disks.

Thanks.

Dell didn't support Debian/Ubuntu anymore. We have done with that tools the last 3 years. And had a lot of problems with the installations. Then firmwareupgrades brakes everything.

You can make a try...

cd /opt
wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/o/openslp-dfsg/libslp1_1.2.1-10+deb8u1_amd64.deb
wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/o/openssl/libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8u8_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libslp1_1.2.1-10+deb8u1_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8u8_amd64.deb

create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dell-omsa.list and add:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian jessie main contrib non-free
deb http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/ubuntu jessie openmanage

apt-get update
apt-get install srvadmin-all

touch /opt/dell/srvadmin/lib64/openmanage/IGNORE_GENERATION

service dataeng start
service dsm_om_connsvc start
update-rc.d dsm_om_connsvc defaults

N.B.: before reboot comment out the code in file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dell-omsa.list

create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dell-omsa.list and add this line:
deb http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/ubuntu jessie openmanage

No more hack is needed, packages are available for stretch since some months now :)

deb http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/openmanage/910/stretch stretch main

I know but Andy is using a Dell 11G Server and latest OpenManage does not support old hardware.
Maybe the title would be "Proxmox 5.3 Dell OpenManage on 11G Server"?

I prefer Dell Server too and have the R710 in production use, but for what i need OMSA? IMHO its only a waste of Performance for an unneeded Tool.

If you want to manage your RAID Controller, you can use the MegaCli Tool itself, they do not need performance, you can manage your whole Controller and you are able to add some Checks for Check_MK if you use the MegaCli Tool.
You can download it here: https://www.broadcom.com/support/kn...terface-cross-reference-megacli-vs-twcli-vs-s

And for some other Controllers you can use sas2ircu which you can find here for example: https://hwraid.le-vert.net/wiki/DebianPackages

But i am pleased with explanations why OMSA is needed :)

Another option is potentially to fit an iDRAC Express. These are available for very little from ebay,

A word of caution though: I recently purchased an iDRAC Enterprise for an old R310 from ebay. I didn't look to see where it was going to come from. It turned out it was shipped from China to an address in my country, then shipped to me.

It arrived this morning. Made by Foxconn, and manufactured (according to the sticker) on the 16th of January this very year. In other words only 10 days ago.

Does Dell know someone is selling parts off the production line, I wonder? And IS it off the production line, given than the 11G has not been made for ages? Might it be a clone? Can I trust it not to contain some kind of malware that would permanently infect the BMC? I dare not install it :-(

Incidentally, I didn't know Dell had finally decided to support Stretch. But I've decided I'm not going to install OMSA on our latest servers - I don't see the need anymore.

With new Dellservers this tools are not necessary anymore. Anything is managed from Idrac Enterprise. We do that so.

The problem is, some people without any knowledge decide to save up 400$ on a 20,000$ machine just to order Idrac Express instead of Idrac Enterprise ...

it is mainly the h700 management im concerned in, I have idrac enterprise already but it doesn't show the storage controller and virtual disks unless im missing something. is there anyway of using the megaraid storage manager on one of the windows VMs ill be running to manage the raid??
