i have a laptop with broken local lcd display and want to install proxmox on that, to make use of that device. (repairing is too expensive)

i have attached an external monitor.

when i boot from the installer iso, i see framebuffer console initialize on both screens and X11 initializes on both of the screens, but unfortunately proxinstall gui starts on 1st, broken display.
with right or middle mouseclick, i can see some openbox context menu and also see proxinstall window element, but unfortunately i'm not able to get it moved to the second screen.

is there a way to move proxinstall to the second screen or restart on the second screen?

Hi,

You can take the laptop disk and install the PVE on it, then re-plug it into your laptop. Maybe other people have another ideas...

would it be possible that X11 will start X display in mirror mode instead of extension/xinerama mode?

on another laptop which is working, i found that i can mirror the first display to the second one with:

xrandr -q (get connected display info)

xrandr --output Display1 --same-as Display2

unfortunately, i don't find any Xorg configuration option to have generic mirroring without getting the detailed monitor information first.... :(

You can try opening up your laptop and disconnecting the lcd screen from the mainboard (it should be attached with a big ribbon cable). Some laptops will default to using the external monitor as Display 1 in that case.

Best of luck
