Hello! I've been playing with VMs since a lot, and at work I'm planning a new configuration of several machines. My first though was to use VMWare, but a friend of mine told me about Proxmox, so I installed it and begun playin'...

I'm amazed, it runs VMs very smoothly on a i7 with 12Gb RAM, and the ability of use a terminal to make scripts is so great. So I decided to use proxmox for the new project at work, but I have (what I think) a simple question.

First I'll describe the scenario:
- Right now there're 10 computers (not servers, they're used as "workstations")
- Each machine has one cartography software installed on it.
- Each software is from a different developer, with data stored in almost every different Database Engine (MySQL, PostGreSQL, SQLServer....¡¡¡¡Access!!!)
- There're a variety of OS, XP, 2003 Server & Ubuntu
- 4 of them uses map software, so they'll need a big amount of ram.
- Because every machine was provided by the software developers, there're no external backups and no fail-safe implementations (Yes it's a chaos!!)

So having a look at this chaos, I decided to talk my boss about virtualization....
At first I decided to use Rack servers, I was pointing to a Dell PowerEdge R815 dual Opteron 16cores with 64Gb of RAM and a RAID 10 for the VMs Storage with a Clon for fail-safe. All the database data will be stored in a dedicated DB Server VM with SQL Server, PostGresql & MySQL, everything running in a W2008 Core Server and all the other machines will access to it's data through network.
The VM wont create a high CPU load because they don't have a high CPU load, they just receive signal alarms, it's spotted in a map and maybe generate an alarm... nothing else...

But my real question is if I use a Rack server like the Dell I mentioned before, what would happen if I need to upgrade the server¿?.... I'd need to buy two new ones!! So I talked about this with my friend, and he talked me about Blade Servers....

I know that in RedHat works (I don't know how to make it work), but dunno if in Proxmox does. If I "create" a server with two blades (one of them redundant), if I add another 1 or 2 Blades, can I increase the power of the main server without using a cluster, because a cluster is a distribution of VMs in different servers (I think, in a simple explanation).

I think it's not a cluster, neither load balance, I just simply don't know the name of the technology (sorry)

I hope to have explained myself, because it's not easy to explain such things if you're not English ;-)

Best regards, Lolo!!

long post but I did not get your "simple" question, sorry.
