process UPDATECHECKERD high cpu usage

Every day I have to kill the process because it increases the use of the cpu too much.
What is this process?

hi,

that's not a process from PVE.

it might be something you installed, or might be malware (mining coins or similar).

if it comes up after you kill it, i'd check the cron jobs.

do you happen to have a file /usr/sbin/uplugplay on your system? please check ls -al /usr/sbin/uplugplay.
if that exists then it's most likely malware [0] (the article also mentions updatecheckerd so i would say this is an indicator that your server has been compromised).

if your server is compromised then you should take action to remove the malware, change your passwords. ideally you would reinstall the whole server :)

is this a cluster? if yes you should also check your other hosts...
