I have a Dell PowerEdge C1100 with the following resource :
2 x CPU: 2x Xeon Quad Core L5630
RAM: 32GB
HDD: 2 x HDD 2.5" ( i don't have RAID controller so i don't use RAID)

The first time I install Proxmox VE, It's so easy. Everythings is ok but i have some wrong config in the 1st time use Proxmox. So i want to reinstall Proxmox but i get some problem like that :

Photo_17-05-06-01-06-18.809.jpg

I try to hard format 2 HDD and retry but it's still get the same message . I boot and install Proxmox VE via a USB Flash , using Proxmox 5.0 and Etcher to create the Bootable USB Flash to install Proxmox VE 5.0

Does anyone have same problem ? How i can fix it ??

--------
Thanks for read !

Easiest way to fix it would be to install as ZFS (so overwriting any disk configuration) and then reinstall with LVM.

Maybe you should stick to ZFS, because you have a working raid and can take snapshots of you host system such that you can always rollback to a working state. ZFS is a steep learning curve, but you won't regret it.

thanks for your suggest, but i was tried ZFS (RAID1 with my 2 HDD) and have a message that " can't create swap"
The first time i install Proxmox , it's too easy, everything is ok. I don't change any with my HDD, and my boot setting. I don't know what is going on :(

Most of the errors com in my experience from some strangeness in the storage backend.

If you could provide better debug: Switch to all consoles (Alt+F1, Alt+F2, etc..) and create a screenshot (if idrac is used) or photo of the screen. We will then know more and can probably assist you further.

the next iteration of the iso for 5.0 will fix these issues (by cleaning the disks more thoroughly). until then, you can boot into debug mode or a live cd and clean the disks yourself. usually it is a leftover volume group that is causing the problem.

Thank you for your help. I will try clear disk by some DOS program like Partition Magic and reinstall again and show you result .
Thanks !

I have run into this exact same problem. To make matters worse, my rig I built just for Proxmox 5 has a Ryzen 1700 and a Samsung 960 Evo NVME SSD . The first install worked but I had forgotten to connect the ethernet cable so it failed at the end. Upon trying to reinstall again I ran into this issue.

I read this thread and tried using GParted but unfortunately it crashes on boot giving me a trace, which is related to my using Ryzen and the kernel being incompatible. I eventually decided to use a WinPE 10 rescue disk using Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 which booted fine and I erased all the partitions on the disk. Sadly, even with all the partitions deleted with Paragon, I'm still running into the problem when trying to reinstall.

I will attempt to reinstall tomorrow using debug mode and see if that makes a difference rather than using a third party partition manager.

the problem is that the PVE installer will recreate the partitions at the exact same boundaries, so just deleting the partition table is not enough, you need to remove the volume group and physical volume..

how to remove the volume group and physical volume ? I tried format the Disk but it's seen not work.

"vgremove NAMEOFVOLUMEGROUP"

followed by
"pvremove /PATH/TO/PV"

for the default PVE configuration, it would be "vgremove pve" "pvremove /dev/sdX3" (where sdX is the disk where you want to install). please be careful to choose the correct disk / volume group ;)

Thanks, can i do it in debug mode when install Proxmox ? Or using some Dos program to do it ??
