I'm working on setting up Proxmox Mail Gateway (PMG) as part of a school project, but after 48 hours of effort, I feel like I'm going in circles. Despite scouring forums and tutorials, I still can't figure out what's going wrong or why I'm stuck. To help myself understand the flow of incoming emails, I even created a diagram outlining the process. If it would be helpful, I’d be happy to share it here for feedback.

What I’m Trying to Do
I want to set up PMG to filter incoming mail for my domain, example.com. The idea seems straightforward (I’m sure many of you are thinking, “This should be simple!”), but as someone new to PMG, I’m finding it challenging. Here's my setup:- My domain, example.com, is hosted with IONOS.
- My email accounts are also hosted with IONOS (webmail).
- PMG is installed on my local network at home, behind NAT, and is exposed to the internet via my public IP address (let’s call it A.A.A.A).
What I’ve Achieved So Far
- I’ve successfully managed to receive emails on PMG.
The Problem
- The emails don’t get forwarded from PMG to my IONOS mail server.
- I’ve tried various configurations and troubleshooting steps, but I eventually reached a point where I decided to completely reinstall PMG to start fresh.
What I Need Help With
Could someone kindly guide me through the process of setting this up? I feel like I’m missing something fundamental in the configuration, but I’m not sure what it is. Any step-by-step explanation or pointers would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me.
