I am prepared to upgrade my PVE server to 7.2 but am a bit concerned about trashing my boot sector. From what I read I believe upgrading will be ok, but I could use a second look.

The line in the documentation, "System installed using Proxmox VE ISO 6.4 or later" has me a bit confused. If it means the same as "You must be at the latest release" then I'm sure I'm ok to proceed...

I have upgraded many dozens of Proxmox 6.x to 7 without boot issue. I followed this doc:

https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_6.x_to_7.0

I made sure the the node was first fully updated on latest 6.x. Then started the 7 upgrade process. I did make sure to run pve6to7 script before starting every steps. I may have over did running this script many times, but I also did not have any upgrade issue.

If you are doing it remotely, just make sure you have fully functional IPMI/KVM/LiLo or what ever remote management platform you are using. During the upgrade process you will lose network connection completely, specially if you are using Openvswitch.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that pve6to7 came back clean on my system as well. You know how it is, I get a little nervous, lol.

:D I know what you mean. The doc has lot of info. I actually had to boil it down to simple bullet point step checklist and just followed that over and over just so i dont miss any steps.
