Hi All,

I am planning to build a setup consisting of a main Proxmox server (2 CPU AMD Epyc 7543, 512GB ram, mirror raid of 30TB NVME, an RTX A5000) and a backup Proxmox (Old HP Gen8 560 with 4 CPU Xeon 4620 with 96GB ram and some slow SATA SSDs). To save power I plan to have the old HP only power up about once per month to sync up with the main computer. The rest of the time the VMs will be backed up to a Synology 814+ with 4 x 16TB drives. If the system goes down then I hope I'm only needing to deal with recovery of data since the last time the old HP server turned on and synced, and I can restore the actual VM from the backup... But I'm not sure it works that way. Does it? Please advise. I don't want to run this old HP 24/7 if I don't need to.

No, restore is not incremental if you use ordinary PVE backups.
