Hi there.

I think it would be cool if there was a better tool without taking the server online like vmware converter that you can convert your physical server to proxmox.

What I do is taking the server offline and convert it with clonezilla that is saved on a network storage but that can take long if the server is big. I would suggest you make a tool for this to convert directly to proxmox.

I'm thinking of implementing this to our clients but also another think is the backups. I want to be able to do incremental/differential backups weekly and on friday full backups.

other than that I must ssay compared to vmware this is actually much better.

Using clonezilla, you can go directly to proxmox while the server is offline. I think offline is much cleaner as there's a chance that data is changed during the live conversion. http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migrati...roxmox_VE_.28KVM.29_using_Clonezilla_Live_CDs

There is an add-on for doing differential but it is not supported by Proxmox http://ayufan.eu/proxmox-ve-differential-backups/
Post by Dietmar saying there are no plans to implement this type of backup: http://pve.proxmox.com/pipermail/pve-devel/2012-August/003408.html

Problem with clonezilla is you have to take the server offline and that's the BIIIIIGGGGG issue here
