Physical DVD Drive on Laptop not connecting

I connected my physical DVD Drive on my laptop running proxmox to an ubuntu vm for makemkv. It regesters a generic non working drive. I have seen that the DVD Drive option only works for data but can not find anywhere that states any workarounds.
