Hello everyone! I hope this is the beginning of a great ride!

I'm setting up my home lab and i ordered a Protectli Vault – 6 Port and i wanted to use it as a Hypervisor also since it is way overkill just to be used as a router but I'm having some doubts. My overall objective is:

- Passtrough all NICs to PfSense to get the same amount of management as if it was a bare metal install;
- Still be able to access the hypervisor platform even by doing the first point (for some reason my head guess there is something wrong with it).

Is this possible? Or I will be needing a exclusive Ethernet Port for the Proxmox Management?

Thank you in advance

Hey,

it should be possible, you'd need a virtual interface (created by PVE and added to the PfSense VM) and then set up routing (or just bridge) the virtual interface in PfSense. So PfSense sees a virtual interface that connects to the vmbr0 of PVE(the hypervisor and other VMs you might create are on vmbr0).

But keep in mind, if the PfSense VM should crash/shut down in this setup, PVE won't be reachable anymore. So maybe a dedicated port for PVE might make sense.

Hello Hannes, thank you for your fast response. Is there anyway then I can use both the bridged port and the exclusive port like a backup?

Thank you
