Persistent VM instability with Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Proxmox 8/9

Well, after bios update, 10 hours without VM reboots and counting. Lets see how long this goes...
Hopefully..... I'm now on this path, after further testing, and getting a replacement set of dimms sent out from Amazon, it looks like I may have been in the sub 1% club and have got faulty dimms, as the replacement dimms so far in the stress tests seem to not be having issues...

How have your VMs held up any reboot? Or has the BIOS update helped?

Yep, there is clearly a substancial change in stability after this bios update. Now going over the CPU Type, testing X86-64-v3 (from v4) to see if I can make them completely stable. Will report back.

I’ve been running stably with the ram at 4800mhz for 4 days now, even with upping the tick rate on the SCUM server I’m running to 128 just to see and had no issues, my Minecraft server that’s pretty heavily modded has been absolutely fine aswell. The BIOS update just came out a couple of days ago for my board, so I’ve just updated Proxmox, and just in the process of updating the board, and then hoping I can run EXPO at 5800Mhz… will report back

Sorry for a pessimistic word:
We tried two times with AMD, both were spectacular fails. I'm not saying it's impossible, but how long are you gonna test it after a success until it's production ready? A year?

We already made the decision not to use AMD AM5 with Proxmox for anything serious, more than a month ago. However we do like to contribute to the community, and helping debug this is what I'm trying to do. The bios made no noticeable change, the only thing that does seem to get it a little better is using kernel 6.8 instead of 6.14. There is something clearly wrong with this combo of Large Memory + AMD AM5 + Proxmox.

Overall, I am very happy with this motherboard, but mostly have been running in on win11. I really really like the flexibility in the PCIE GEN5 bus (GPU GEN5 x8 + additional NVME GEN5 x4 and an free PCIE GEN5 x8 slot (running at x4).

Now typing this on a proxmox win11 VM with an RTX 5080 passed through, works great but for a proxmox n00b it's quite 'interesting' learning curve (but I have 30+ work experience).

Can't say I'm running it 24/7 though. too early. I've noticed that my VM locks up with "cpu : host" when running shadow of the tomb raider benchmark so I toned it down to x86-v3 and that work fine. It's pretty reproduceable. Works for me.

Cheers.
Hi there, I am running win11 vm on proxmox as well on AMD Ryzen 9950X and i am having random freezing issues where by the CPU would show a 100% use on proxmox and i had to reboot everytime to solve the issue. I am using CPU passthrough, have u faced any similar issues? I do not have any device passthroughs
