I saw a post shortly after 5.4.1 was released (which I cannot find now) that there was a significant performance degradation for VMs after updating to 5.4.1.

I am planing to update from 5.3.1 and our cluster does not suffer any performance issues now. Is there anything in particular in 5.4.x that can cause VM performance issues ?

Thank you

I don't recall anything in particular. But as the upgrade brings a new kernel, depending on the hardware and workload, performance may change.

yes I think they were fixing something in the kernel which had a performance penalty but I cannot find the original post and was wondering if anybody can confirm based on the CPU usage on 5.4.

Thx

I can't find it right now, but I think you're talking about somebody who compared the performance given by kernel 4.10 from Proxmox 5.0 or 5.1 (I don't remember) with kernel 4.15 on later Proxmox versions.

In fact, as far as I remember, he tried to use the 4.10 kernel on Proxmox 5.4 (or 5.3, not sure now) with a 30% performance increase.

Hope it helps. Regards,

Manuel Martínez
