Performance issue when passing HDD through to another VM and then sharing via samba

Hi all,
I am hoping for some ideas on where to start looking for a solution.

I have a small home setup running on an old intel i750 with 16gb of ram with storage running as ext4. I am running 2 VM's, 1 which is simply for torrenting and organizing of plex media and the other for open media vault which I use to share my storage, aswell as a few containers.
I have set up my system to passthrough the storage drives to the OMV VM in which I use samba to share across to other VM's and containers.
when I create a bind mount on an un-priv container after passing through to OMV and then creating a share mount back to the host.
(HDD on Host > passthrough to VM > create samba share > Mount share on host > bind mount to unpriv container) I am getting a dropout every 20-30 mins when streaming plex on a device on the same network.

If I turn off OMV and mount the HDD directly on the host and then bind mount it on the unpriv container the issue is gone.
I have looked at the servers usage and at no point does it look like I am starved for resources.

So I am looking for some advice on where to start looking for the issue. I have an assumption that it may be network related, but if anyone could possibly give any insight that would be greatly appreciated.

also hdd's are passed through as scsi
