I performed a test recovery of my quite large VM (710 GB) on Proxmox 8.4. The restore process worked fine, but took too much time (8 hours) for a "real emergency". Now I wonder, how I can make it faster.
The PBS is running as a VM on a Synology NAS 218+, storage is on classical HDDs, not SSDs, PVE-host and NAS are connected by 1 GbE. So my question is, what is the bottleneck?
With 1 GbE networking speed, I calculated a minimum restore time of around 2 hours. So I suspect, that storage on HDDs is slowing down the restore process. Or is the low performace of PBS as VM on an old NAS the problem?
I guess, the best would be to upgrade to 2.5 GbE and SSDs as PBS storage; what do you think?
