Hello,
I'm looking for some suggestions on the idea to put PBS as VM on my Homelab PVE (1 PVE node stand alone + 2nd PVE node with Zsync actived).

Some pros e cons ??

The idea to put PBS as VM comes due to keep PBS configured on QnapNas (NFS share) even if I move its VM from one PVE node to another PVE node (in a cluster or not).

To configure PBS with NF share I used this guide (in german but translated in english): NFS share on PBS
With this guide, Backups by PBS seems to work fine.

2 Questions/doubs:
1) understand what's happen if I use the same backups on that PBS VM to restore some other backuped guest VMs on a different PVE server/node
2) What about the effects to move PBS VM (configurated and hooked with the Qnap NAS NFS share) in other PVE nodes ??

Thanks and appreciate suggestions

I just installed PBS on QNAP (in a VM) a couple of days ago and that works... surprisingly well. Wasn't expecting much of it, but I was pleasently surprised.

My QNAP is TVS-1271U-RP (Core-i3 with 8 GB RAM) and is not being used much for anything else. I gave the PBS VM all 4 vCPU-s and just 4 GB RAM (I found that it could work fine with just 2 GB in my case). I am backing up some TB-s from two PVE hosts. About 30-ish VM-s in total. Some things to note:
- PBS assumes your clock is set to UTC (or perhaps I missed that option when setting up). Since this is a VM and QNAP Virtual Station seems to provide local time, you might have issues. In that case you can use this within a PBS VM: 'timedatectl set-local-rtc 1' to tell it the machine hardware clock uses local time. This helped me resolve the issue with time.
- you might install qemu-guest-tools in the VM as well (with 'apt install qemu-guest-tools'), to have some integration with Virtual Station.

Otherwise PBS on QNAP is just working fine. There is perhaps a possibility to install PBS in an LXD container on QNAP as well, that might have less overhead in HDD operations. Bonus for Container Station is your backup files could be visible from QNAP file browser directly, if you care for that. I didn't try the container option, but that might be another interesting option. I suspect both options to work better than using NFS - provided your QNAP has enough hardware. Mine seems to have just enough for PBS to run comfotably and not hurt QNAP.
