Hi all,
I back up a handful of laptops to PBS and was never happy with the usual setup of a cron job plus proxmox-backup-client. So I wrote a small desktop client around it and put it on GitHub in case it is useful to someone else.
pbs-desk runs the backup from a systemd timer and shows the state in the tray. It also has a restore window: pick a snapshot, it mounts the archive read-only and opens it in your file manager, so getting a single deleted file back is a few clicks.
What it does today:
There is also a Windows version (file backup with VSS, plus a disk image every four weeks). That part is much younger and has only been tested on one machine.
It is an early version. I run it daily on several Fedora/KDE notebooks. Other distributions and desktops are barely tested, and there are no RPM or DEB packages yet, you install with the install.sh script from the repo. GPL-3.0.
Repo: https://github.com/Bu66as/pbs-desk
It is an independent project, not affiliated with or supported by Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH.
I would be glad about feedback, especially from anyone running GNOME or a Debian-based distro, or who has a different idea of what a PBS desktop client should show. Bug reports are welcome as GitHub issues.

What it does today:
- Backs up / and /home as root.pxar and home.pxar with proxmox-backup-client
- Optional snapper snapshot on btrfs before the run, so the frozen state is what gets backed up
- Skips runs during working hours, on battery, or if there was already a successful run that day
- Optional "shut down after backup" with a 60 second countdown, only after a successful run
- Server, datastore, namespace and API token are entered in a settings dialog, the token only needs DatastoreBackup
- UI in English and German
