PBS as VM and iSCSI / NFS datastore

Hello,
Couldn't find any complete answer for my question.
I've installed PBS as VM on proxmox cluster. I have some Synology NAS, that I could use for backup purposes (for PBS) via iSCSI or NFS.
Also don't know what is the best way to connect iSCSI / NFS datastore - directly in PBS VM? Or just add them as another datastore in proxmox cluster?

I've connected iSCSI datastore directly on the PBS VM, but dunno if it's a good practice or not for PBS. No one replied.

I have a PBS VM using iSCSI datastore from a TrueNAS scale, but I only use it as a secondary PBS, used to pull the backups from the primary PBS which is on a dedicated PC.

I wouldn't use the VM as a primary backup because those backups can ONLY be access via the PBS itself, so if the PVE host fails, I would have to first rebuild that and then create the PBS VM and attach the backup data store.

Also if encrypted backup is used, a copy of the encryption file is required in order to be able to restore from the backup.

Proxmox recommend running PBS on a separate PC (very low spec is OK, mine is a used core i3 2nd Gen tiny PC), and I would concur with that, given the rebuild process in the case of host failure.
