Today i have installed PBS 3.2.7 on Synology DSM 7.1.1 using its virtual machine manager. The installation is pretty standard by downloading ISO but the last step i did not do the usual NFS or SMB route for PBS backup datastore instead i added another disk (you would get warning which says disk more than 2TB might not be able to export on synology but it is ok for me as I dont plan to export the VM at all)

I do this with TrueNAS. It's a great design for a virtual PBS.
You are sitting it right on top of the storage. That's as fast as you are gonna get with a VM.

We use a primary baremetal PBS to do backups, and secondary virtual PBS to do sync and longer storage.
