PANIC after clean install

I did a clean install of pve 2.1. Upon boot, it stops and shows the following message:

PANIC: early exception 0e rip 10:ffffffff8151161a error 0 cr2 28
PANIC: early exception 0e rip 10:ffffffff8151161a error 0 cr2 28

Any ideas how I can fix this and get it running?

In case it helps, I was able to install Debian Squeeze 64bit on the same machine without problems. But the pve install gives the above errors.

Another update... I am trying to install PVE on top of Debian Squeeze (since the normal install won't let me boot). I am following the instructions from the Wiki, but I get the same PANIC message after doing this step:

"Reboot and make sure to select Proxmox VE Kernel on the boot loader (grub2)."

A little more information... The last thing I see on the screen before the PANIC message shows up is this:

Loading initial ramdisk...

Can anyone help me get pve working? I'm not sure what to do from here.

can you try with to boot latest kernel from pvetest (2.6.32-15)?

Ok, I tried that and I'm still getting the panic. The message is slightly different this time though. Here it is:

Loading initial ramdisk...

PANIC: early exception 0e rip 10:ffffffff8152628f error 0 cr2 28
PANIC: early exception 0e rip 10:ffffffff8152628f error 0 cr2 28

Anything else I can try?

That thread ends with the problem being solved by a power supply... The machine I'm using is a brand new computer, a Dell Precision T7600 (got it two days ago), so I wouldn't think it could be a bad power supply. I can try to track down another one to try out, but I'm not optimistic about the results. I've also tried different memory and a different video card, but the results have been the same.

Also, the clean install of Debian works just fine. It doesn't have this PANIC issue until I install ProxMox.

Disable any device in BIOS you don't need (LAN, onboard video or sound card). Disable all power saving modes, hyper threading etc..Remove RAM modules and use only one slot, remove any unnecessary device attached to PCi-E slot. Update BIOS or firmware.

Well after pulling out the RAID card (a Dell PERC H310), the panic message went away. But I am now getting new errors instead. There is a bunch of stuff that gets output on the screen, then the machine shuts off automatically. I don't have enough time to read/type it before the machine shuts off, so I took a picture off it and attached it here. The last line before the automatic system shut down is:

[<ffffffff8100b182>] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b

Any ideas what to do here?

I found a fix for the latest error (system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b)... When I add the "nomodeset" grub boot option, it will boot properly into pve and gets me up and running.

That being said, when I disconnected my RAID controller to get rid of the PANIC, I only have 1 SATA port which means I can only have 1 drive connected. Are there any other possible solutions I can try to allow my RAID controller to work so I can connect multiple drives? If it helps, here are the properties listed in the RAID bios config:

Product Name: PERC H310 Adapter
Package: 20.10.2-0002
FW Version: 2.120.14-1504
BIOS Version: 4.29.00_4.12.05.00_0x05110000
Boot Block Version: 2.02.00.00-0001
Security Capable: No
Controller ID: 0
PCI Bus: 0x06
PCI Device: 0x00
PCI Function: 0x00
PCI Slot ID: 0x04

So does this mean that I'm probably out of luck with the RAID controller? Or is there anything I can try to get it working?

I don't have no any experiences with this controllers so hard to say.
Maybe replacing it with supported RAID controller + BBU if you have
enough money or install PVE on Debian but i never tried this:

I have tried installing on Debian. The install works fine, but when I try to boot into pve, I get the panic message again.

Is it strange that the install of pve from the bare-metal iso works fine, but it can't boot after the install? The pve installer sees the hard drive that is connected through RAID and installs just fine. It creates the lvm and all the needed files just fine. But when the install is complete and it reboots, it gives the panic message. I wonder why the install process can see and use the RAID disks, but booting doesn't work for it.

so the standalone installer and Debian install both finish successfully, but booting doesn't work after install.

I have tried installing on Debian. The install works fine, but when I try to boot into pve, I get the panic message again.

I guess the message shows again because kernel is missing driver or is not loaded or something like that.

Could be this error related to filesystem (ext3 vs. etx4) or is this completely irrelevant which fs is used?
