Overnight gui loss

I have the same problem with no access to gui. I have used proxmox for over a few months, all has been running perfectly. I have numerous vms installed servers, ubuntu etc. never an issue. but yesterday it refused to let me have the gui. I can sign in on the server screen. (I have the proxmox on hardware with monitor). I can see the node, but what I cant do is get out, when I try to update, or download anything by the CLI, it fails.

is there any commands I can check to find whats stopped and how to restart? I hard started the computer, to no avail, I checked all cables, switch and router all works great, i swapped ethernet cables from a good computer to the proxmox machine, still no good.
I have good internet access, chrome, firefox, edge none of them bring up the gui.

Im concerned I have some software corruption because I havent updated proxmox, nor have I shut down the computer running prox mox.
Or my nic card died on me. i do see both lights flickering on the ethernet connection...but still I cant download grep ( its not installed) nor can I install net-tools...since proxmox cant find its way out of the box.

again all attempts to update, or download into proxmox from the root shell fails.

Whats your output of ip addr and systemctl status pveproxy?
ip addr
brings up 6 items

Looks fine so far. Maybe a problem with your pfsense VM?
the pfsense was the only vm I had running. I do not have it start on boot, I turn it off and on from the console.
is there any way of shutting down this vm from the CLI ?

It seems the pfsense vm would have stopped when I hard stopped and restarted the computer.

I also checked my norton antivirus, I turned it off and tried to pull up the gui but that didnt work either.

i went in and checked status systemctl status pveproxy....I also stopped and restarted pveproxy (checking status between modes)
that didnt help either.

Its not that I cant just reinstall proxmox and rebuild, but that seems extreme and if it every happens again I'll be in the same scenario as I am now.

Its probably "100" if its the only guest. You can use qm list.
Dunuin: this is so helpful, many thanks again, I'll jump on it when I get back home.
now, to sound super nooby, there's probably some documentation that would have shown me these commands
if I had bothered to read it?

truth is....this is my home lab and I freaked out when it went down. super appreciate the hand-holding.

This proxmox and all my vms are a dream come true when it comes to my home lab ----> attempting to learn ethical hacking.

I finally gave up. I couldn't get the gui to come up. I pulled the computer and set it aside, maybe in the future
someone who knows this stuff really well will recognize what to do and throw in an answer for me.

I have another computer, I loaded up proxmox and some vms I'm on my way again.
