Hello,

I have imported an OVA into ProxmoxVE 8.0 using the "qm importovf" command and it seems that the VM is starting.
I had to change the SCSI controller to be the VMWAre PVSCSI and also do a couple of additional tweaks, but at least the VM is starting.

The VM is based on Linux and when it is starting at some point in the dmesg I see the following log: "VMWare is not detected, exiting".

I do not know how the software is checking if the Hypervisor is VMWare or not, but I am wondering if there is a setting that I could do either in the GUI or CLI to present Proxmox to the host as a VMWare hypervisor?

Has anyone run into an issue like this?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi,
you probably have some leftovers, that are supposed to integrate with vmware. Without further information on the guest OS I can only guess what the package is named, but it's probably something like open-vm-tools. As this kind of software tends to be hypervisor specific, you can disable/uninstall it.

It can be beneficial to install a similar service for qemu, the virtualization platform used by proxmox. You can read more about it here [0].

"VMWare is not detected, exiting"
Is this an exact text of the error that you are seeing? If it is, that seems quite unique.
At what point in boot does it happen? Can you save and provide boot sequence? Even if its a screenshot, I am curious what this might be.
