Has anyone else noticed how running rsync inside OpenVZ client tends to break the whole Proxmox host?

Test case; Build 2 OpenVZ containers on 2 different Proxmox hosts (clustered) and try to rsync a large filesystem (Zimbra mail server / ie. over10Gb) between these 2 OpenVZ clients.

Results are not encouraging on any of the tests we did.
Usually Proxmox hosts ended up crasing with 'io error' killing all the clients.

which kernel branch do you use for the test - 2.6.18? provide pveversion -v.

host12:/var/lib/vz# pveversion -v
pve-manager: 1.8-18 (pve-manager/1.8/6070)
running kernel: 2.6.32-4-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 1.8-33
pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve: 2.6.32-33
qemu-server: 1.1-30
pve-firmware: 1.0-11
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-17
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.27-1pve1
vzdump: 1.2-13
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.14.1-1
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-6

forget to ask which OS template to you use for the containers. will try to reproduce. also tell what hardware do you use.

OK. Today a customer crashed host7 with rsync command on OpenVZ client.

we need the details, all you provide is just not too helpful. the kernel version is not unique, the template description is missing the architecture. and 1.7 is outdated.

last try: give detailed instruction how to reproduce!

again, pls define a detailed test case and I execute it in our lab. til now you just told that you have issues with rsync without detailed test setup for validation.

Nor sure but it seems to me your host server is running out of memory or can't handle the disk IO during the rsync process. Please check the state of your memory and the IOdelay while rsync is running.
