Open ERP looks like a very interesting system.

OpenERP still needs the shared funded addons - DB Synch Tool and Open Office Report Designer Tool - these are priced at Euro 250/- and 500/- respectively.

Checkout FrontAccounting at the Wiki and you can use their Report Designer for free.

OpenERP (formerly TinyERP) is based on Postgres 8.4 and Python3/GTK. It uses a thick client - compiled Python/GTK and is also available for use on the browser. There is a .deb package as well.

Yes OpenERP would be much interesting as a virtual appliance, particulary in an openvz form

Just need to use a standard Debian SID OpenVZ package and then after the usual apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, install OpenERP with the deb packages and instructions from:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/openerp-server/download
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/openerp-client/download
