Open a Promox VM in virtualBox

Hi All,

I have a Proxmox virtual machine running in virtual box, there is a Windows VM running in the Proxmox VM.

I really need to Export the Windows VM and open it in VirtualBox.

Is there a way to export the machine ? Or her disk maybe ?

Generally, it is possible, but you may have to reactive your license and do a ton of other work in order to get it right. You need to do the reverse steps described in this article, so convert the disk to raw format and import that raw format into VirtualBox. Maybe you should also ask in a VirtualBox forum or google how to import the raw disk there, but it is straight forward. Biggest problem are - as I said - the drivers and the licensing in Windows.

Thanks for your reply, I tried that but the machine doesn't boot "boot not found", I'm going to try to backup the vm with windows server backup on a disk placed in a shared folder beetwen my computer and the proxmox server.
Then I'll create a new VM in virtual box, boot-up windows server iso and try to restore the backup on it.

That is often the case for windows. This is mainly a guest OS problem, not a virtualization problem.

Yes, that was also stated on the page i linked. The chances of success are higher. It is always a good idea to use the guest os backup & restore capabilities.

Unfortunately, Windows is a PITA when it comes to jump hypervisors. Linux is much more forgiving.
